The Weaving (aka The Méabh Begley Trio) consists of Méabh Begley (diatonic accordion), Owen Spafford (fiddle), and Cáit Ní Riain (piano). The trio brings together the rich musical traditions of Corca Dhuibhne (West Kerry), County Tipperary, and Yorkshire, their respective home regions. Their shared musical language emerged in the Gaeltacht of West Kerry, where they first met.

Méabh Ní Bheaglaoich is a singer, songwriter, and musician, firmly rooted in the Irish music, language, and singing traditions of her home region Corca Dhuibhne in the West Kerry Gaeltacht. As a native Irish speaker, she grew up in the renowned musical Begley clan, which greatly influenced her energetic instrumental style and her sensitive, expressive singing. This background also fueled her development as a composer and songwriter.
Owen Spafford is a fiddler and composer from Leeds. Owen was crowned All-Britain Fiddle Champion at the Fleadh Cheoil na Breataine and was nominated for the BBC Young Composer Competition. He studied with the likes of Sam Amidon and John Dipper. Equally at home in a traditional session as in free improvisation, his knowledge of the oral tradition and his love for folk music from around the world translates into an inventive and thoughtful playing style. In 2022, he released a debut album together with guitarist Louis Campbell.
Cáit Ní Riain is a traditional singer, multi-instrumentalist, and folklorist from Upperchurch (County Tipperary). She grew up in the world-famous music pub Jim of the Mills, where she was shaped by a constant stream of musicians and singers from near and far. This nurtured her deep appreciation for her own culture and her place in the world. Cáit has won several medals at the All-Ireland Fleadh Cheoil na hÉireann, for singing in both English and Irish.
