Lia Sampai (CAT) and Helena & Pablo Casella (BE/BRA)
An evening of Catalan and Brazilian songwriting, presented with intimacy and warmth. Lia Sampai weaves la nova cançó and chanson into pure, socially engaged poetry, supported by her regular guitarist Adrià Pagès. Helena & Pablo Casella color the evening with their own Portuguese songs and reworked Brazilian gems—a musical interplay full of saudade, finesse, and family connection.
More from this artist
Singer-songwriter, actress (Institut del Teatre, 2021) and psychologist (UAB, 2018), Lia Sampai entered the music world intuitively and as a self-taught artist in 2017. She began writing her own songs, where word and interpretation take center stage. She finds her inspiration in the tradition of la nova cançó and French chanson. Major influences include Raimon, Ovidi Montllor, Maria del Mar Bonet, Lluís Llach, Édith Piaf, Jacques Brel, and Georges Brassens.
Her stage debut immediately earned her second prize in the Concurs de Cantautors de Ferreries (2017). Since then, she has received more than twenty awards, both nationally and internationally.
To date, she has released three albums: La fada ignorant (2019), Amagatalls de llum (2021), and most recently Un Delta fràgil (2024), which was released last April and has already been performed live at some fifty concerts. Since her first album, she has been consistently accompanied by guitarist and composer Adrià Pagès, her regular musical partner in all her work so far.
Helena and Pablo Casella share not only a musical sensitivity but also a family bond: uncle and niece who have been making music together at family gatherings since childhood. In 2019, they decided to bring their interplay to the stage, where their natural connection was immediately felt.
Helena Casella is a singer and songwriter who studied jazz at the Conservatory of Amsterdam. In 2025, her highly acclaimed debut album Pit of Impressions (Werf Records) was released, featuring her warm voice and subtle compositional style.
Pablo Casella is a composer and multi-instrumentalist from São Paulo who has lived in Ghent since 2008. He has collaborated with various music projects and composed for several theater productions at home and abroad. His broad musical practice also feeds this duo, in which he takes on vocals, acoustic guitar, bass, and percussion.
Together, Helena and Pablo present a program of original compositions in Portuguese, complemented by reworkings of Brazilian gems. Their concert is a journey through intimate ballads, layered harmonies, and rhythmic bursts, carried by their close interplay and a warm, Brazilian glow.
