Step inside War Windows, where Marc Hauman opens a musical window onto the First World War. Together with a top ensemble of musicians, he brings the turmoil of battle on the Yser to life in poignant verses, images, and melodies, inspired by the song tradition of Wannes Van de Velde.
The program mixes Hauman’s own songs with Flemish folk classics, translated folk gems from other languages, and surprising finds from contemporary cabaret. Each song is a small window onto the war: horrors, glimmers of hope, human stories, and the emotions they evoke. Wouter Vandenabeele is responsible for the arrangements and Marijke Meersman for the set design; together they create an intimate, intense, and poetic whole.
